About the Anova Books Group
The Anova Books Group is a thriving London-based publisher specialising in illustrated books and digital content for the UK and all international markets. We publish around 200 books a year under our range of established imprints; Batsford, Conway, Collins & Brown, National Trust, Pavilion, Pavilion Children's, Portico, Robson and Salamander.
Our high-profile authors include Oz Clarke, James May and Bruce Parry, and we specialise in managing brand-led publishing programmes with large organisations such as Good Housekeeping and The National Trust. At the core of our business are specialist lists such as wine, naval history, craft, cookery and textile art.
The Anova Books Group is wholly-owned by its three founding partners and we have traded profitably since our establishment in 2005.
Our Imprints
Batsford
Founded in 1843, Batsford is an imprint with an illustrious heritage that has built a tradition of excellence over the last 165 years. As a leading publisher of definitive books for the serious enthusiast and professional, Batsford has developed an enviable reputation in the areas of fashion and design, embroidery and textiles, chess, heritage, horticulture and architecture.
Collins & Brown
Established in 1989, Collins & Brown quickly became a leading name in illustrated non-fiction. Publishing a wide range of practical titles from leading authors, Collins & Brown is foremost in the fields of craft, needlepoint, health and wellbeing, photography and popular culture and enjoyed runaway success with the craft book of 2010 Best in Show: Knit Your Own Dog.
Under Collins & Brown, we are also proud to publish the Good Housekeeping range of consumer books – including the bestselling Step by Step Cook Book and the Easy to Make series.
Conway
Founded in 1972, Conway is one of the world’s leading publishers of books concerned with military, naval and maritime history. The diverse list includes titles on cartography and polar exploration, naval warfare, piracy and maritime trade and commerce, along with narrative histories and biographies of military leaders. Conway has also had recent success with two BBC tie-in titles Empire of the Seas and James May’s Toy Stories.
National Trust
As the official publishing partner of The National Trust our books reflect the unique significance of the countryside and coastline in the Trust’s care. With topics covering everything from gardening tips, to how to look after bees, grow fruit, cook traditional food and become composting experts, there are plenty of delightful books for all tastes.
Pavilion
Pavilion was founded in 1981 and quickly forged a reputation for creating glamorous non-fiction and prestige gift books. Publishing beautiful books across all subject areas, Pavilion has an enviable list of authors and contributors, including the artist Jack Vettriano, the wine expert and television presenter Oz Clarke and the notorious lingerie retailer Agent Provocateur.
Pavilion Children's
Pavilion Children’s Books features some of the best-known authors and illustrators working today, including Quentin Blake, Terry Jones, Michael Foreman and Ralph Steadman. The list includes books for babies, picture books, early fiction and illustrated classics.
Portico
Created in 2007, Portico publishes non-fiction books that are fresh, funny and forthright. With a focus on new authors and quality writing that will make you both laugh and think, these are books that punch above their weight.
Recent successes include Can’t Be Arsed, a hilarious diatribe against the perpetually infuriating ’101 things to do before you die lists’ (and listmakers) written by Richard Wilson, executive producer of Have I Got News For You, as well as When I Were a Lad… a best-selling collection of nostalgic photos taken in a time before health and safety existed.
Robson
Established in 1973, Robson has published a quirky and successful list spanning the whole range of non-fiction, as well as some fiction and poetry.
Salamander
Salamander Books was initially renowned for their military history and transportation lists. Over time, we have absorbed a number of illustrated book imprints, and the name now represents Anova’s successful packaging arm, generating high-quality books across illustrated reference and popular culture for the international market-place.
